Old Mutual strives to provide a safe and healthy working environment for its employees.

Our standards meet the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and management is responsible for sound health and safety practices. We are proactive in identifying and dealing with exposure to risk, and will always prioritise employee safety over factors of productivity where real risk of injury or occupational illness exists.

During 2002, 19 days were lost due to injuries suffered by staff while on duty. This represents a significant improvement over the 124 days lost in the previous year.

These figures translate into a decline in the percentage of employees injured from 0.5% in 2001 to 0.2% last year.
